Great American Cleanup 2007
Results and Pictures     

The Great American Cleanup, a project of Keep America Beautiful, was coordinated locally by Keep Palm Beach County Beautiful Inc. and the Solid Waste Authority. Over 5,590 volunteers participated in beautification events in Palm Beach County, picking up 76.43 tons of litter from 82 sites, including 226 tires that were collected and sent to Firestone stores for recycling. Activities also included the planting of over 60 trees and 665 plants and the painting and renovation of 6 community buildings and one residential rehabilitation complex. Five public elementary schools benefited from special Great American Cleanup-related grants, including special performances of the "Trash and Recycle Show" performed by eco-entertainer, Steve Trash. Join us next year for the Great American Cleanup in April 2008!

Items retrieved from a waterway cleanup in Lake Clarke Shores Microwave Oven, recycling bins (6), various large pieces of styrofoam, piling logs (3), tires (13), pieces of plywood, fire extinguishers (5), lamp globe, galley box from Pan Am Airlines, jug with test tubes, gallon of oil, pvc piping, wooden window shutters, swim noodle, rubber exercise balls (2), coolers, doll head, large planting pot, couch cushions (2), rubber duck, light pole w/bulb, large bamboo pole, rubber raft, 1/2 boat oar, sleeping bag, chicken wire, top of a skate board, basketball, aluminum roof & sliding from a shed, paint can, 5 gal bucket, lattice fencing, blanket, tarp, babies raft, trash can, 10' pole, sign with post (no writing), hammock, fishing pole, lunch bag, hard hat, tricycle, part of a plastic playhouse, baby doll, baseball bat, dollhouse, over 50 bags of miscellaneous trash - 4.15 tons worth!
