Great American Cleanup 2009
From Boca Raton to Jupiter volunteers participated in the 2009 Great American Cleanup picking up thousands of pounds of trash and participating in beautification projects that included landscaping and painting.

The Great American Cleanup, a project of Keep America Beautiful, is coordinated locally by Keep Palm Beach County Beautiful Inc. and the Solid Waste Authority.

Trash and Recycle Show at Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School.

19 volunteers picked up 1000 lbs of trash from canals off of Havehill Blvd and Palm Beach Lakes Blvd, West Palm Beach.

46 students in the after school "Green Thumb Club" picked up 120 lbs of vegetative debris and 5 lbs of recycled materials and planted a butterfly garden, mulched, and created a rock border around their vegetable garden at Riverbend Park, Jupiter.

84 volunteers picked up 1200 lbs of trash (including a refrigerator) and 700 lbs of recycled materials at the beach and intracoastal at Coral Cove Park, Tequesta.

The kids from the Eastview Manor neighborhood in Jupiter were out in force collecting 15 lbs of trash and 25 lbs of recycled materials.

475 lbs of trash including 3 tires and 50 lbs of recycled materials were collected by 19 volunteers at the Golfview Harbor neighborhood in Boynton Beach.

37 volunteers collected 110 lbs of trash and 90 lbs of recycled materials at the Grammercy Park neighborhood in West Palm Beach

212 Volunteers in Boca Raton, managed by the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center picked up 1300 lbs of trash removing about 100 bags of trash from the mangrove shoreline of Spanish River Park.

Shown are some of the unusual items among the 550 lbs found by 35 volunteers at the Juno Dunes natural area in Juno Beach.  200 lbs of recycled materials was also retrieved.

One of the more unusual items found among the 3,960 lbs of trash and 40 lbs of recycled materials retrieved by 14 volunteers from Jupiter Farms.

These young volunteers were among the 45 volunteers that picked up 150 lbs of trash and 5 lbs of recycled materials at the beach at Jupiter Inlet Colony.

This is among the 6,420 lbs of trash, including 20 tires picked up by 91 volunteers on the waterway of Lake Clarke Shores.

94 volunteers found this Port-a-Potty door and frame on Munyon Island among the 1000 lbs of trash and 200 lbs of recycled materials picked up. They met at Lakeside Park in North Palm Beach and went by boat to the island.  See more pictures of the Munyon Island cleanup.

80 volunteers picked up 670 lbs of trash and 70 lbs of recycled materials on Lake Worth Beach, Lake Worth
